The Climate Project Training Programme UK

In March 2007, Former US Vice President Al Gore delivered a climate change training programme to 200 of the UK’s top leaders from business, government, media, education and civil society. The programme brings together leaders who are committed to communicating and taking action on climate change across the UK and internationally.

The 1½ day training programme, led by Al Gore, utilised the slide-show behind Al Gore’s Oscar-winning film and best-selling book, 'An Inconvenient Truth'. It engaged delegates in dialogue that clarifies the issues around climate science, and considers the potential actions and barriers to action in addressing greenhouse-gas emissions.

UK leaders who are considered to have the greatest potential to effect change within organisations and wider systems were selected to participate in this programme. This approach makes it possible to engage in sophisticated dialogue and explore relevant and innovative mechanisms and tools targeting solutions to climate change. It also ensures that trainees are able to engage effectively with the learning and potential actions if they are drawn from similar levels of understanding and influence. The process is designed to help trainees understand the issues and to think critically about solutions and actions required to address climate change issues.
